Tips on Keeping a Glass Pool Fence Looking Pristine All the Time

Glass is a highly revered pool fencing option because it is highly functional and aesthetically pleasing. But like any other pool fence, a glass fence requires some upkeep to continue working effectively and to keep looking nice.

As part of regular maintenance, pool owners have to clean their glass pool fencing. Keeping the glass clean and crystal clear helps to maintain an unobstructed view of the pool area and ensure the fencing keeps looking beautiful.

If you're contemplating installing a glass pool fence, below is a guide you can follow when cleaning it.

Use the right cleaning supplies.

The glass panels used to erect a pool fence is different from the glass used to make other glass products around your home. Therefore, it is important to avoid using household glass cleaner to clean your glass pool fence. Typical household glass cleaners contain harsh chemicals such as ammonia, which can damage your glass fence panels. Aside from that, most household glass cleaners are not effective at removing dirt from a glass pool fence. As a matter of fact, they can leave behind unsightly residue on the surface of the glass.

Harsh glass cleaners are not the only elements that can damage the surface of your glass pool fence. Abrasive cleaning tools such as hard-bristled brushes can also cause damage to the glass. Use warm, mildly soapy water and a clean, soft and lint-free cloth or rag to wipe off the dirt from your glass pool fence. If you can afford to use your glass fence manufacturer-recommended glass cleaners, the better. Hose down the glass fence with fresh water as you're wiping it down so you can prevent residue from drying on surface of the fence. If the fresh water is "hard," add a water softener to it so as to lower its mineral content.

Clean your fence as frequently as necessary.

Manufacturers of glass pool fences usually recommend how frequently pool owners should clean their pool fence. However, every glass pool owner's situation is unique. Pool owners living in tropical or coastal areas may need to clean their fence more frequently than those living in rural areas away from the coastal climate and remote from urban activity. Therefore, you should be ready to make some adjustments to your manufacturer-recommended cleaning schedule.

The above tips are effective at helping you keep your glass pool fence clean and crystal clear, but they can also help extend the lifespan of the glass fence.
